Karin van Zyl-Steyn is a counselling psychologist in private practice. She follows
an integrative and holistic approach to psychotherapy and counselling that
utilises various cognitive, behavioural, affective and physiological techniques.
She believes that individuals have access to all possible internal resources to
resume balance on a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual level. It is her
mission to assist individuals to reconnect with their unique meaning and
purpose in life.
As a HypnoBirthing instructor, she combines her passion for hypnotherapy as
well as pregnancy and parenting issues in assisting parents-to-be in creating a
natural birthing experience that is calm, relaxed and at times even pain free.
She is also trained as a Fertile Body Method Practitioner whereby she uses
hypnosis to help couples boost their chances for natural fertility and conception.
Karin has gained experience in many areas of human problems including
trauma counselling, bereavement, marriage guidance and preparation, career
guidance, depression and anxiety, eating disorders, and parenting skills.
She has given talks to the public and facilitated adolescent groups where issues of identity, assertiveness and general emotional intelligence were discussed. She is a regular contributor as the Psychology Expert for Your Pregnancy and Your Baby magazines.
Karin is one of the founding members of Weaving Wisdom, an internet-based-platform for conscious and proactive living and learning. Weaving Wisdom is an authentic South African production that showcasts local talent and wisdom, offering inspiration for mastering the challenges of different life stages. Weaving Wisdom aims to host regular webinars and training courses, e-books, podcasts, audio and visual recordings. Our first webinar, The Birthing Wisdom Webinar, was held in 2016. Webinars for 2017 will speak to the life stages of Pre-teen Parenting, Rituals for Life Stage Transitions, as well as Positive Ageing.
Her formal qualifications include a BA General (1998) and an Honours degree in Psychology (1999) at the Rand Afrikaans University,
as well as a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology at WITS (2005).
She has also studied various modalities of hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Transactional Analysis (TA), Eye Movement Integration (EMI) and Brain Working Recursive Therapy.She is an executive member and trainer for the South African Society of Clinical Hypnosis (Sasch).
She is part of the psychological team of assessors on the entrepreneurial selection committee for Raizcorp.
She is happily married and has three boys. All of her babies were born the HypnoBirthing way.
